Ben Silverio
Contributing Writer
Ben F. Silverio, proudly hailing from Philadelphia, PA, received a degree from Drexel University in the Screenwriting and Playwriting Program with a minor in television production. Armed with this $40,000 piece of paper, Ben can now begin climbing the treacherous ladder of the entertainment industry, which he hopes to do while streaming WWE wrestling matches and reading Marvel comics on the iPhone that is permanently attached to his hand.
Even before receiving this diploma, he faked his knowledge of film and television pretty well on a radio show he co-founded with his classmate, Zachary Shevich. Known as The Pretentious Film Majors, Ben and Zach created the only film review show on Drexel University’s WKDU 91.7FM. Since the show’s inception, it has evolved into a multi-format form of entertainment including blogs, podcasts on iTunes, and articles in the school paper. the radio show itself still exists, even though Ben has moved on to bigger and hopefully better things.
Through The Pretentious Film Majors, Ben had the chance to share his views on comic book movies and general nerdiness, ‘80s and ‘90s teen movies, musicals, any and all things Kevin Smith-related, and his dislike for Nicholas Cage and X-Men Origins: Wolverine, mainly with people who tuned in by accident.
Ben was also a member of the Filipino Intercultural Society of Drexel University (FISDU), where he was head writer for their annual culture show for three years and performed small parts in the shows, one of which was his own original play.
Ben is currently pursuing his dream job of working on the creative team of the WWE, but until he can get there, he has absolutely no problem taking jobs at the absolute bottom of the Hollywood barrel or hanging out at his parents’ house in Philly and blogging about the movies that he watches all day.
