Family-Blue CapriceInsidious: Chapter 2
(Horror)
Director: James Wan
Stars: Patrick Wilson, Rose Byrne, Barbara Hershey
Armchair Smack: We all need a good scare on Friday the 13th and James Wan’s latest is destined to top the box office this weekend. If you can’t make it to the theater, though, stream Wan’s 2010 original or try The Possession, another kid-possessed creeper.

The Family
(Comedy)
Director: Luc Besson
Stars: Robert De Niro, Michelle Pfeiffer, Dianna Agron
Armchair Smack: Besson’s misuse of De Niro’s and Pfeiffer’s talents is criminal, so instead, look for a better mobster relocation comedy. You might enjoy My Blue Heaven with Steve Martin and Rick Moranis.

Blue Caprice
(Crime)
Stars: Isaiah Washington, Tequan Richmond, Tim Blake Nelson
Armchair Smack: This account of Beltway snipers John Muhammad Lee Malvo looks like an indie winner, but if you can’d find it in your area, (un)settle for another indie, Spike Lee’s Summer of Sam with John Leguizamo and Mira Sorvino.

Jayne Mansfield’s Car
(Drama)
Director: Billy Bob Thornton
Stars: Tippi Hedren, Kevin Bacon, Robert Duvall, Robert Patrick
Armchair Smack: Critics are calling this film a “wreck,” so our advice is to steer clear. A much more poignant look at family dysfunction following an accident is 2012 Oscar®-winner, The Descendants.

Mademoiselle C
(Documentary)
Stars: Tom Ford, Karl Lagerfeld, Kate Upton, Sarah Jessica Parker, Donatella Versace
Armchair Smack: This documentary for fashionistas focuses on the editor of Paris Vogue but you can stream The September Issue for a revealing look inside the world of American Vogue editor, Anna Wintour. If you prefer Meryl Streep’s comedic take on Wintour, stream the classic The Devil Wears Prada.
